13-year-old boy drowns in Kano

THE Sauna community in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State was on Thursday thrown into mourning when a 13-year-old boy, Anas Basiru, fell inside a pond and died.


The Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saidu Mohammed, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to on Thursday in Kano.
According to Mohammed, the incident occurred on Wednesday.

He said their office received a distress call from one Haruna Musa at about 4pm that Basiru’s body was found floating in the pond.


“On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our rescue team to the scene of incident at 4.10pm.


He said the lifeless body of the boy was handed over to the security personnel.


He charged parents to desist from allowing their children to go for swimming in open water as most of the ponds were filled to capacity due to the recent downpours.
