2019 International Workers Day

Workers in Nigeria today joined their counterparts all over the world to mark this year’s international workers day.

The day , also known as labor day in some countries or may day  is a celebration of laborers’ and the working class that is promoted by the international labor movement which occurs on the first of may of every year.

Reports say, the date was chosen by a Pan-National organisations of socialist and communist political parties to commemorate the Haymarket affair, which occurred in Chicago on may 4, 1886.

The first of may is a national public holiday in many countries worldwide, although some countries celebrate labor day on other dates significant to them, such as the united states, which celebrates labor day on the first Monday of September.

 In Nigeria, the federal government has declared today as public holiday to celebrate the 2019 workers’ day. The minister of interior, lt.- gen. (RTED) Abdulrahman Dambazau, who made the declaration on behalf of the federal government, congratulated Nigerian workers on their commitment and sacrifice toward building a greater Nigeria
