Uniq FM and Federated Chapels became the first teams to reach the quarter finals of the ongoing NUJ Inter Chapels Soccer competition after the second round of matches which held on Friday, 11th October, 2019 at the Osogbo Township Stadium.
Uniq FM qualified after a walk-over on a depleted NTA chapel who voluntarily withdrew from the competition while Federated Chapel gatecrashed into the quarter finals with four points, following a 3-0 bashing of State Information through a brace by Olanrewaju Adeogun and Pinhero Oladimeji plus a goalless draw with Local Government chapel in their first game.
In the last game of the day, a star-studded but wasteful Rave FM, buoyed by the presence of the team’s manager, Femi Olanipekun (Franksports ) and Coach Joseph Atewe (Mourinho) proved their superiority over an ageing but pregnant Correspondent Chapel, led by an unfit but struggling NUJ Secretary, Comrade Boladale Bamigbola following a lone goal victory scored by Moshood Oladipo.
Earlier, sponsor of the competition, Honourable Lawrence Ayeni, who personally conducted the official kick-off charged all teams to obey the FIFA fair play rules and assured the committee of a well organized final holding on 30th October, 2019.
“I want to commend Osun NUJ Council for bringing up this competition to make members physically fit and further cement the working relationship among chapels. I am happy to be part of the competition and I assure you of my support to make the final a memorable one”, submitted Hon. Ayeni.
In the meantime, matches continue on Tuesday next week when OSBC Chapel tackles Uniq FM in a repeat of last year’s final while State Information will ambush Local Government Chapel. The last battle of the day will involve Osun Defender and Rave FM.
