
Osun State Broadcasting corporation (OBSC) chapel on Wednesday proved their superiority over other chapels as it coasted home Gold medals in three out of the four categories of the 2022 NUJ Inter Chapel Sports Competition.
In the grand finale of the annual sports fiesta which held at the Osogbo Township Stadium, the ‘Voice of the West’ claimed Gold medals in Football, Table Tennis and Ludo games while Correspondent Chapel came distant second with one gold in Ayo Olopon.
In the final of the football event, the Indomitable ‘Folaranmi Boys’ walloped their colleagues from Local Government Chapel by a lone goal, scored by Wale Olanuyan in the fierce encounter which was graced by the leadership of the union, led by the state Chairman, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu.
At the ultra-modern Michael and Felicia Memorial Table Tennis Hall, venue of the indoor games, Ayodeji Akinloye of the OSBC thrashed Seun Fakile of the State Information chapel to claim Gold medal in Table Tennis while Mr Tunji Omofoye drowned his colleague form Correspondent Chapel, Lateef Dada to bag the Gold medal in Ayo Olopon.
Meanwhile, it was a dramatic victory for OSBC reporter, Oluchi Amuda in Ludo game, which was exclusively set aside for women journalists from all chapels. Amuda, who was making her debut at the event outclassed last year’s winner, Funmi Adekoya in the first round, went past her colleague, Wumi Olaniyi in the semi final before she rode over Deborah Oladejo of the Correspondent Chapel in the final to win the third gold medal for OSBC.
Speaking at the event, Chairman, Osun Council of the NUJ, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu commended the sports committee for putting in place a well-organized competition which took care of all categories of members, adding that the inter chapel sports competition has been adding positive and tremendous value to the annual Press Week Activities.
“I commend efforts of the sports committee, particularly Tajudeen Amodu, Seun Omidiran and Timothy Agbor for their initiative in putting in place different categories of games for all.pur members this year. This is one the best committees in terms of planning, arrangement and organization. I give kudos to all committee members for the good job done and I urge them to sustain the tempo.”
“What we’re doing here today is an avenue for healthy rivalry and a platform to interact, discuss and compete favourably with one another through sports, which remains a unifying factor in the world. I therefore congratulate all the winners and wish all of us good luck”, said Mr Ajadosu.
Winners and runners up in each category of the games went home with fantastic prizes such as quality standing fans, electric blenders, electric jug, customized medals, golden trophy among others.
The committee also recognised performances of some individuals as it gave out awards to some members. In the football event, Director of Sports, OSBC Chapel Muideen Adeleke received the award of Best Manager while Toba Adedeji of the Correspondent Chapel bagged the best goalkeeper/fair play award. The Outstanding Leadership Award went to the State Chairman of the Council, Com. Ajadosu.
Among those who graced the four-in-one event are Zonal NAWOJ Secretary, Mrs Funmi Adekoya, State Vice Chairman, Mrs. Abosede Egbedele, Zonal Secretary of the NUJ, Mr. Andulrasaq Alege, State Vice Chairman and the Secretary, Com. Sesan Adeleke, and Bukola Elufadejin respectively as well as chairmen and secretaries of all chapels among others.
