Abia court remands man for allegedly raping middle-aged woman

An Abia State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Umuahia and presided over by Idika Kalu, has remanded one Preye Alabo in a custodial centre over an allegation of rape.

Preye was alleged to have on August 19, 2020, at the Federal Low-cost Estate, Umuahia, unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a middle-aged woman without her consent.

The offence was said to be contrary to Section 357 and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 80, Vol. 3, Laws of Abia State of Nigeria, 2005.

The chief magistrate ruled that his court lacked the jurisdiction to handle the matter and transferred the case to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for further investigation and remanded the accused in the Federal Correctional Centre, Afara Umuahia.
