Abia police arrest two suspected robbers, five on the run

The Rapid Response Squad unit of the Abia State Police Command has arrested members of a seven-man gang that allegedly robbed one Nnodim Ikechi on March 1, 2021, at his residence in the Eziama GRA, Aba.

The suspects allegedly stole his wristwatches, phones, travel documents, televisions and other valuables, and shot him in the left eye.

The suspects, Emmanuel Paul, 22; and Ifeanyi Onyemiesi, 17; were said to have been arrested through intelligence by the RRS operatives.

Other members of the gangs now at large were identified as Chika; Ifeanyi, aka Show; Prince, aka Aboy; Toothpick; Bouncer; and Victor, aka Stainless.

The same gang had allegedly robbed a former Chief Judge of the state at his residence at the GRA, Aba.

The hoodlums allegedly dispossessed the CJ of his television, phones and the sum of N420,000 during the robbery on April 9, 2021.

In another development, the RRS operatives apprehended two robbery suspects on Tuesday through intelligence.

The suspects are Chinonso Isaac, 27, who hails from Amumara in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, and Emmanuel Emeka, 19, both residents of Aba.

They were said to specialise in attacking Point of Sale operators in the Omuma Area of Aba and its environs.

On July 6, 2021, the gang allegedly robbed one Egede Onyekachi, a PoS operator at No. 3A Nwangwa Street, off Omuma Road, Aba, shot him in the stomach and dispossessed him of his PoS machine and N250, 000.

The police said they were trailing the fleeing members of the gang.

Similarly, the police unit said during the monitoring of operations along Ngwa Road, Aba, it busted a four-man gang of robbers and arrested one Emmanuel Emeka from Amaogudu Abiriba.

He was said to have been arrested with a locally-made gun and a single barrel pistol during the operation.

Other members of the gang are Emeka, Miliki and Chimaobi, who are now at large.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the arrests and urged members of the public with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects to volunteer such, adding that the identities of informants would be protected.
