Akpeyi set to sort out South Africa work permit issue

Nigerian goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, will be available for Kaizer Chief’s season opener against Mamelodi Sundowns on Oct 24, after missing the club’s MTN8 quarter-final win against Maritzburg United on Sunday due to work permit issues.

Club captain Itumeleng Khune returned in between the sticks for the tie, as Akpeyi sorted out the work permit issue.

The 34-year-old, in a chat with our correspondent, says he is eager to return to competitive football with the South African side.

“Yes, the work permit issue will be settled this week,” Akpeyi said.

Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to beat Maritzburg United 2-1 in the MTN8 quarter-final match at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Yagan Sasman grabbed two quick goals in the closing stages, as Gavin Hunt began his era at Amakhosi with a victory.

Akpeyi and Chiefs lost the league title on the final day of the 2019/20 league season. The Super Eagles keeper missed the last two league games after an injury against Bidvest Wits in a 1-0 loss.
