Bandits kill one and abduct many travellers along Kaduna-Zaria highway

One person was killed, while many other travellers were abducted on Monday, along Kaduna-Zaria highway in Kaduna State by bandits who blocked the road.

The newsmen learnt that the incident happened on Monday night around Mawai village, known as Gonar Magajin Gari.

A source explained that the victim killed, identified as one Alhaji Sani Dogara, was heading for Kaduna from Zaria.

Other sources lamented that the armed men operated on the highway unchallenged for hours.

The newsmen also learned that the bandits came in vehicles, stationed them around Tudun Gaude village before they commenced their operation.

The source explained that the vehicles of the bandits were used to evacuate their captives to an unknown destination.

The further explained, “We were by the roadside when we noticed vehicles making abrupt U-turn on the lane to Kaduna from Zaria while other vehicles ran into the bush.”

He added that they saw several motorists alighting from their vehicles in confusion and running on foot into bushes.

He further explained that at the time they ran into the bush, there was no gunshot fired during the operation but confirmed that he later saw that one person had been shot on the hip.

Mawai village is about 15 kilometres from Zaria.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige could not respond to calls placed on his phone as of the time of filing this report.
