INEC Files Appeal Against Osun Tribunal Ruling

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed the judgement of Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which held January 27, 2023.

In the notice of appeal obtained by OSBC Online News in Osogbo on Wednesday, INEC listed 44 grounds of appeal in the Notice of Appeal dated 30th January 2023, filed before the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, and asked the court to set aside the Tribunal’s decision.

The appellant also requested that the court dismisses the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress and its candidate in the election, Adegboyega Oyetola, as meritless.

Recall that the tribunal led by Justice Terste Kume in a split judgement nullified Governor Ademola Adeleke’s election and announced Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola as winner of July 16, Governorship election which was petitioned by the former Governor Oyetola and his Party, The All Progressives Congress APC.

INEC had on Sunday July 17 2022 declared Governor Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner after polling 403,371 against Oyetola’s 375,027 votes
