Command arrests four phone thieves in Niger

The police in Niger State have apprehended four suspects over the theft of a phone at the Obasanjo Shopping Complex, Minna, the state capital.

The suspects, Mustapha Mohammed, 19; Suleiman Mohammed, 19; Sadiq Yusuf, 20 and Nasiru Mohammed, 20, were said to have conspired and made away with an iPhone valued at N185,000.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

He said, “On August 6, 2020, around 6pm, police intelligence operatives on surveillance at the Obasanjo Shopping Complex, Minna, arrested four suspects, all from London Street, Dutsen Kura, Minna.

“The suspects conspired and entered a shop in the complex in the guise of buying an iPhone. In the process, the attendant’s attention was diverted by one of the suspects, on the pretext of buying an earpiece, while Mustapha Mohammed picked the iPhone and hide it in his pants.”

The spokesman urged members of the public to be vigilant when carrying out any transaction in and around the shopping complex.

He said the police recovered the iPhone from the suspects, adding that they would be arraigned after investigation.
