Dismissed LASTMA officer arrested for impersonation

A dismissed officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Shakiru Agbaje, has been arrested by the agency for impersonation.

Agbaje, who was dismissed from LASTMA about nine years ago for presenting a fake certificate and fraud, was arrested in the Mushin area of the state for allegedly extorting money from residents.

It was learnt that the suspect, while parading himself as an officer of the agency, brought hardship and terror on unsuspecting motorists and residents of Mushin and its environs.

The LASTMA General Manager, Olajide Oduyoye, in a statement, said Agbaje was arrested following an intelligence report obtained by the provost unit of the agency about his illegal activities and unauthorised traffic enforcement operations at the LUTH Junction, Idi-Araba, Surulere.

He said, “All those who have long been sacked or disengaged from the agency and who still wear LASTMA uniforms to perpetrate illegal activities will soon be caught. We urge the general public to always take note of the names of LASTMA officers they relate with. Go about your lawful activities, strictly obey and adhere to Lagos traffic laws and regulations.”
