A father, Pa Bright Ahanor, on Wednesday, lamented the disappearance of his son, Godspower, who fled home six years ago after cultists threatened to kill him (Godspower) over his refusal to join their group.
The 82-year-old appealed to the police to fish out the culprits, whom he said continued to terrorise the family despite his son’s absence.
While displaying a police report from the area command office in Benin, the distraught octogenarian wailed that he had not seen Godspower since he ran away from the armed cultists who attacked their family house on January 2, 2015.
He recalled that when the hoodlums came that night, they scaled the fence and jumped into the compound, threatening to kill his son if he refused to follow them for their initiation ceremony.
Bright said his son, who was fast asleep, quickly jumped out of bed and escaped through the back door, adding that in anger, the hoodlums set part of the building on fire.
He said since that night, he had not seen his son.
Bright said, “They have been coming from time to time to look for my son. Each time they come, they fire into the air, shouting that they will kill him anytime they set their eyes on him for betraying them. They insisted that he should have joined the cult like other young men in the neighbourhood, but my son is easy-going and doesn’t like violence. He said that he would never join them.”
