THE Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria on Monday, appealed to commercial drivers in Nigeria to join fight against insecurity by always exposing kidnappers and bandits boarding vehicles at various parks in the country.
The Chairman of the RTEAN in Ogun State, Titilayo Akibu, said this in Abeokuta at the unveiling of membership cards and marking of the one year anniversary of the executive.
The chairman, whose speech was read by the state Secretary of the association, Akingbade Tiwalade, said kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements might be exploiting commercial vehicles for transportation without being noticed.
Akibu, who is also the National Treasurer of RTEAN, urged drivers and other transporters to always alert security agencies when criminals are sighted at the parks.
According to him, an enlightenment programme has been carried out for the union members on how to exercise roles in exposing criminals.
He said, “We know security is the responsibility of any government. However, in view of the rampant level of kidnappings, banditry and so on, we have carried out security enlightenment among our members.
“We have held several seminars for our drivers because security is a team work. You have to see something and say something. If you see strange faces in our parks, you have to alert the security agencies.”
