
There is an ongoing attack by terrorists in Damasak, Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
The terror group, Islamic State West Africa Province fighters, in over a dozen gun trucks were said to have launched a daring attack on Damasak town in Northern Borno on Tuesday.
The garrison town of Damasak is the capital of Mobbar Local Government Area of the state, close to the shores of Lake Chad.
The ongoing attack was said to have started around 5pm, taking residents by surprise.
The insurgents were seen heading towards the Army base in Damasak, as residents observing Ramadan fled the town.
Local sources said that fierce clashes could be heard and at least one Nigerian Air Force combat aircraft was supporting efforts to push back the attack.
On Saturday, April 10, several humanitarian facilities were destroyed and at least six people were killed during an ISWAP attack on Damasak.
