Flooding: Bayelsa Closes Schools

As part of efforts to alleviate the impact of flood in Bayelsa State, the state government has directed that all primary and secondary schools in the state immediately proceed on six-week flood break.

The flood break which is compulsory for both private and public schools is expected to protect students from any adverse effects of the flood.

Aside directing the closure of all primary and secondary schools, the Governor Duoye Diri Government also constituted a task force to recognise high grounds that persons affected by the flood can relocate to while all closed water canals in the state is being opened up to reduce the impact of the flood.

As of the time of filing this report, some parts of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital has experienced flooding.
