Floods: Farmers To Get Aid

Farmers whose farmlands and crops were destroyed by the recent floods across parts of the country are to be compensated, the Federal Government has promised.

The compensation will, however, be paid after the end of a comprehensive impact assessment of the floods by the National Food Security Council.

The government which confirmed the death of 612 persons and displacement of 1.42 million others in the natural disaster, said Jigawa, Anambra, and  Kogi states were the worst hit.

It put the number of persons affected by the floods at 3,219,780.

To minimise the impacts of flooding in the future, the government said it was mulling the enforcement of its yearly routine warnings to persons living in flood-prone areas.
