Governors meet to discuss N1b COVID-19 support and stamp duty

The Nigerian Governors Forum will on Wednesday (today) hold its 16th teleconference meeting where the governors would discuss the N1 billion Federal Government support to 32 states and the controversy surrounding the stamp duty collections/recovery.

The virtual meeting would also deliberate on the CACOVID flag-off and the distribution of palliatives, which has been ongoing on a regional basis as well as the Basic Health Care Provision Fund for which approval had been secured.

This was contained in a statement titled “The 16th NGF Teleconference Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 2nd September, 2020,” and signed by the Head, Media, and Public Affairs, NGF, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

He said the governors would also get an update on the N100 million World Bank Support.

The statement said, “N1 billion FG COVID-19 support to 32 States which has also been finalised will make it to the governors’ discussion table just as a report on the Executive Order #10 will be given by the Vice Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Sokoto State, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

“An award on wild polio which was given to the NGF during the weekend by Rotary International Polio Certification will feature, according to the invitation that was issued to governors by the Director-General of the NGF, Mr Asishana Okauru.

“For over two years the controversy surrounding stamp duty collections had gone full circle and is now back to the governors’ purview where the recovery and other legacy Issues will be discussed by the governors with a view to working with a consortium of consultants.”

The statement also disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s Committee on PTF will give the governors an update while a presentation by the World Bank on the State’s Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability programme and its new deadlines will conclude the proceedings.
