INEC denies issuing certificate to Adeleke

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied issuing certificate of return to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a result of last Friday’s Osun governorship petition tribunal judgment.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the commission’s National commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, Barrister Festus Okoye.

According to the statement, “section 143 (1) of the electoral act gives a candidate whose election is set aside a period of 21 days from the date of the decision to appeal against such a decision.

Speaking further, Barrister Okoye said Governor Oyetola is entitled to remain in office pending the determination of the appeal.

It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Osun and Governor Gboyega Oyetola have appealed the dissenting judgment of the tribunal which held last week.
