Info FM, Channels TV, Others Win Big At Maiden National Broadcasting Awards

Broadcasting in Nigeria has come a very long way and it is time broadcasters are celebrated for their sacrifices on the job.

The chairman Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, and Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr John Ugbe, gave this assertion at the maiden edition of the Nigeria broadcasting awards held in Lagos.

According to him, this will inspire up and coming talents and spur broadcast professionals to do more for the industry.

In his remarks, the secretary general of BON,Dr Yemisi Bamgbose applauded all participating stations and organisers for contributing to the success of the maiden edition of the awards.

The Minister of Information and Culture , Alhaji Lai Mohammed was represented by the director general National Broadcasting Commission,NBC, Mr Bello Ilelah.

At the event, Lifetime Achievement awards for their role in the promotion of the broadcast industry were given to Chief Christopher Kolade, a veteran broadcaster and one-time Director–General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, Engineer Vincent Maduka, the first Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, who campaigned for more categories to reward radio and TV programmes, as well as Mohammed Ibrahim, who is the first Nigerian to superintend the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

The event also paid tribute to notable figures, who had made indelible contributions to the broadcast industry even after their passing. Among them were the late ace broadcaster Mike Enahoro, Dahiru Modibo, and Kunle Olasope, who was Africa’s first male face and voice on television.

Winners of various award categories included Nigeria Info FM, which clinched the Best Radio of the Year, Arise News, the best television of the year and Channels TV, which emerged winner in the Best Television Station – Original Production in Business/Drama/Sports (English Language) .Best Tv show English language,Trust TV,

Osun State Broadcasting Corporation TV was among 8 other television stations in the country earlier shortlisted for the best television of the year award.

The consultant to the Osun State governor on OSBC, Dr Femi Adefila, the Director General of Osbc,Mr Rasheed Folaranmi and the Director of News and Current Affairs,Radio, Mrs Abimbola Babatunde represented OSBC at the occasion.
