Katsina road accident claims 22 lives, 11 injured

A ghastly motor accident has claimed not fewer than twenty two passengers, eleven others injured along Kankia-Danja road in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Federal Road Safety Corp spokesman,  Abubakar Usman, who confirmed the incident, said the crash involved two J5 buses carrying about 36 passengers, mostly women and children.

He said: “22 persons were burnt to death, 11 severely injured in the crash and three others came out unhurt when the two vehicles burst into flames.”

An eyewitness, Shafi’u Suleiman, said those involved in the crash, included a bride, her friends and some married women and children who were escorting her to her marital home.

Usman added that efforts were still ongoing to ascertain their identities, adding that  the victims have taken to  General Hospital in Malufashi for treatment.

He further stated the remains of those  burnt beyond recognition have  buried.
