
A High State Court of Ekiti, sitting at Ado Ekiti, sentenced to death by hanging Isa Abdulkareem, 21 years old. According to the prosecutor, the accused committed the offense of armed robbery in violation of article 402 (2) of the penal code Cap C16, laws of the state of Ekiti in Nigeria.
He was indicted for the first time on January 8, 2018, where the charges were read and interpreted to him, but he pleaded not guilty. The presiding judge, Judge Oluwatoyin Abodunde said: “I find the accused guilty and sentenced, he is sentenced to death by hanging and may the Lord have mercy on his soul”.
During the flight, the accused was armed with offensive weapons such as firearms and knives on December 19 and 23, 2016, respectively, when he stole 74,000 dollars from an Adeya Olalekan, Infinix Note 2 telephone between others, he also stole a 110,000 Olomola Taiwo and two Techno Y6 phones.
The flight operation took place in Oke-Ureje, along the Igirigiri road, in Ado Ekiti. The accused was arrested by members of the community during a combined vigilance exercise.
During his interrogation, he confessed to having committed the offense, he took security agents to their hiding place where they met and kept their weapons and ammunition. Objects recovered from the hideout include; 4 Danish pistols and toy guns, locally produced pistols, 4 Nokia phones, 4 Techno phones, masks, knives, charms, ax, headgear of the victim’s wife used to wrap money, cartridges, spent cartridges, knives , sinkers, cash amount of $ 10,000 among others. To prove his case, the prosecutor, Mr. Gbemiga Adaramola called 4 witnesses while all the documents, as indicated above, were presented, including his confessions to the police. The accused was introduced into evidence by his counsel, Mr. Adeyinka Opaleke, and did not call any witnesses.
