Popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo has threatened a N2 billion lawsuit against singer Obidiz for the ‘derogatory and defamatory’ use of her name and image in his song and music video which her legal team termed ‘worldly’.
The hip hop artiste in the said song cited an example of a wayward, club girl (referencing American rapper Cardi B) and also Mercy Chinwo.
“She dey share me the cake, but she no want commit. Mercy Chinwo for church, but for club na Cardi B sef.”
The ‘Excess Love” singer’s team of attorneys headed by Pelumi Olajengbesi, in a ‘cease and desist’ letter, demanded that the song titled: ‘Mercy Chinwo’ as well as the video be taken down from all music digital platforms.
The legal team ordered Obidiz make a public letter of apology publicized on all social media platforms retracting and expressing remorse for the defamation of character and unauthorized use of their clients name or risk being dragged to court to award against him two billion naira damages in favour of their client.
Obidiz is also to desist from further use of Mercy Chinwo’s name and image.
