The Nigerian military on Wednesday, said that its troops have killed one, and arrested three sea robbers, in Bayelsa state, who were declared wanted by troops after a fierce gun battle at sea.
Major General John Enenche, Coordinator of the Defence Operations Media, in the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), said in an operations update, that the three arrested sea robbers had fled with gunshot injuries, but were arrested by troops in Bayelsa state, where they were being treated.
General Enenche said that the operation was conducted by the troops of sector 2, Operation DELTA SAFE.
He said that the troops had encountered the “notorious gang of Sea Robbers at sea, who have been on the wanted list of our troops. After the fire fight, which was won, troops were able to recover one of the bodies of the criminals.
“Relatedly, On 6 April three of the Sea Robbers who escaped with gunshot wounds were later arrested in Bilabiri community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State were they were being treated for gunshot wounds.
“The arrested Sea Robbers are undergoing treatment and preliminary investigation, after which they will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution”, Enenche said.
He appealed to the public to continue to come forward with credible information that would assist the military win the war against criminals in the country.
