Niger downpour: Two killed, 220 buildings destroyed, 780 displaced

TWO persons lost their lives while about 220 buildings were destroyed following a downpour in the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was learnt that 780 people were affected and properties worth N135.5m were destroyed during the incident.

Our correspondent also gathered that three people were critically injured and taken to hospital.

The buildings affected include a police station, the state office of the Department of State Services, the Government Girls’ Secondary School and Government Science College.

Making a presentation during plenary in the Niger State House of Assembly, the member representing Mokwa Constituency, Abdullahi  Gbara, called on the Niger State Emergency Management Agency to come to the aid of the victims by providing them with relief materials.

The legislator lamented that the people in his constituency suffered flood disaster every year, pointing out that their farms and crops were also affected in the recent disaster.
