Nigerian Army inaugurates Operation Sahel Sanity to end banditry

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai on Monday launched another military operation codenamed, Operation Sahel Sanity, to tackle banditry and other crimes in Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger states.

Buratai who flagged off the military operation in Faskari, Katsina State, said the exercise, as well as other ongoing  military operations, were meant to comprehensively tackle banditry and other crimes in the North-West and parts of North-Central to restore peace in the affected states and in Nigeria.

General Buratai added, “The Nigerian Army will be conducting the operation with the support of other sister security agencies, including the police, the Department of State Services and the authorities of the affected states.”

The Chief of Army Staff equally launched the newly acquired 10 Mines Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (M-RAP) which were part of the military hardwares for Operation Sahel Sanity.

He said the M- RAP vehicles were conceptualised, designed and fabricated in Nigeria by the 107 Division Equipment Support of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri.
