The Chairman of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Mr Alex Naantuam, has said one person lost his life while several others were injured when a bridge collapsed in the council area on Sunday.
The chairman spoke after visiting the collapsed bridge located between Nshar and Garkawa communities.
He said, “Our people and their means of survival have come under threat following the collapse of a bridge after a heavy rain.
“The incident led to the death of a promising young man while several others sustained injuries. From the situation of things, the people have been cut off from their economic activities.”
The chairman called on the state government to come to the aid of the people
The bridge collapse in Shendam is the second in one week in the Southern Senatorial Zone of the state as a result of heavy rainfall.
