The state government of Osun has carried out a verification/screening exercise for members of the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme(Oyes) so as to ascertain the actual number of cadets on the payroll of the state government.
The exercise which was done between Friday and Sunday was carried out simultaneously in all the local governments across the state by the Ministry of youth and sports.
Speaking with newsmen on the need for the exercise, Commissioner for youth and sports, Mr Yemi Lawal explained that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola directed the screening of the cadets so as to block financial leakages and enhance accountability.
He said the screening exercise is not to witchunt any of the cadets or to reduce their numbers as being circulated in some quarters, stressing that the verification exercise was long overdue.
The Commissioner assured the cadets of the continuation of the scheme by the present administration, stressing that government needed to block leakages in the scheme through the screening exercise so as to be able to absorb fresh cadets.
Some of the OYES cadets and their mentors commended the administration of Governor Oyetola for deciding to continue with the scheme which according to them has taken many youths out of joblessness.
They hailed the screening exercise, saying it will go a long way in sanitizing the system.
