Osun Residents Commend Oyetola On Dredging, Flood Control

Residents of Osogbo have commended Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for proactively nipping the incidence of flood in the bud through Consistent Dredging of Canals, Rivers and Water Ways.


In an interview with OSBC News on Tuesday, two residents of Osogbo, Mr. Ebenezer Oninkanni and Mr. Babatunde Ezekiel lauded the government for its effort which according to them assisted Osun not to record incident of flooding in any part of the state as it occurs in some states.


Messrs Oninkanni and Ezekiel said “it is very important for all Residents to collectively cooperate with the Government in Protecting the Environment by putting an end to indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Drainages, Rivers and Waterways.”


“The state government has done its best and there is the eed for everyone to support the Government in Protecting the Environment by doing away with indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters, rivers and waterways.”


Speaking In the same vain, the General Manager Osun Waste Management Agency, OWMA, Mr. Oyewole Oladosu enjoined residents of the state to always dispose their refuse properly so as to not allow flooding, saying that people will always get back what they put in the environment.


Mr. Oladosu who assured that government will continue to implement Environmental Safety policies for the betterment of the People warned those building houses in waterways to desist from such act to avoid exposing their lives to avoidable dangers.


Recall that Osun State has not recorded major flooding incidents this year and this has been attributed to the proactive steps taken by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to dredge major River and Water Ways.


The Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMet had predicted that there would be heavy rainfall and incidence of flooding in different States of the Federation, Including some states in the South West Region.
Lives have been reported lost, some buildings submerged in the water, while some others have collapsed.
