Plateau cholera outbreak spreads, cases hit 1,315

Plateau State has recorded a new outbreak of cholera in the Langtang South Local Government Area, bringing the total of LGAs affected by the disease to 14.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nimkong Lar, on Tuesday, added that the death toll had moved to 24 from 21 recorded last week.

He also said the total number of cases had risen to 1,315 from the 1,144 recorded last week while 1,279 patients had been discharged from the hospitals.

The commissioner said, “Since the outbreak in May this year, there were 13 councils that were previously affected by the disease as of last week.

“But with a new infection recorded in Lantang South LGA, we are now left with only three LGAs i – Pankshin, Mikang and Kanke – which have not recorded any infection out of the 17 LGAs in the state.

“Unfortunately 24 persons have so far died from the disease.
