Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have dispersed supporters of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, after they gathered close to the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu’s supporters had earlier been denied access to the court premises. They, however, gathered by the side of the road chanting solidarity songs before they were dispersed by the police.
The IPOB leader will be re-arraigned in court today on allegation of treason.
He was on June 29 re-arraigned before Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja following his extradition from Kenya.
He’s currently being accused of jumping bail after he was released in 2017. This was following a raid on his father’s house in Abia State by soldiers of the Nigerian Army.
Kanu’s IPOB is seeking the restoration of the defunct Republic of Biafra that went to war with Nigeria from July 6, 1967, to January 15, 1970.
