Police increase patrol, NSCDC deploys 1,300 officers in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command said it had intensified patrol and surveillance to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.

A statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the command, Asinim Butswat, assured Muslim faithfuls of security and safety as they marked the Islamic festival.

It quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli as directing Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Teams and the Marine Department to increase surveillance and patrol to forestall criminal activities.

“They have been charged to provide adequate security coverage of Mosques, public parks and recreation centres to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration,” the command said.

Okoli also felicitated with the Muslim community on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir.

The command urged members of the public to report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station, other security agencies or call the Police Control Room numbers 07034578208 and 08075390597.

Similarly, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bayelsa State Command, said it had deployed 1,300 personnel to provide security during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the state.

The State Commandant, NSCDC, Christiana Abiakam-Omanu told journalists on Tuesday in Yenagoa that the enhanced deployment followed a directive by the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Ahmed Audi.

She said the civil defenders’ leadership had directed all zonal commanders and state commandants across the nation to enhance operations to provide a safe atmosphere for the Muslim festivities.

Abiakam-Omanu added that the NSCDC in Bayelsa had consequently deployed more personnel to strategic locations across the state to prevent vandalism or attacks on all critical assets and infrastructure and also to places of worship, motor parks, recreation centres and flash points.

The commandant said the command was providing 24-hour surveillance in addition to routine patrol to guarantee safety in the state.

While congratulating the Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, she urged the public to support the security agencies by providing useful information on any suspicious persons or groups.
