Police recover mutilated female body in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command said on Thursday that it recovered the mutilated body of an unidentified female around the School-to-Land Project in the Edepie area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said the command believed the victim was killed for ritual purposes, as vital organs of her body were removed by her assailants.

The statement read in part, “The unidentified female corpse was found on March 4, 2021 around 08.30am.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that vital organs such as eyes, ears, nose and tongue were removed allegedly for ritual purposes.

“The corpse has been removed and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre’s mortuary for an autopsy.”
