Wale Idowu

Born 58 years ago in Ilesa, Osun  State, the Director General of OSBC, Michael Adewale Idowu  graduated from the University of Jos in 1985 with B.Sc Economics.  Added to this is a Post Graduate Diploma in Advertising from Nigeria Institute of Journalism in 1995.  The Ilesa born economist has attended many professional and management courses among which are Media Selection and Planning Factors (1989); Radio and Television Management in Nigeria (1996); Opportunities in the Digital Broadcasting Era by APCON / NBC (2006).  His experience is so vast that it cuts across administration in which he also  attended courses, some of which are Managing Broadcasting in a Challenging Environment (2003); Managing Strategic Change For Sustainable Development  in Osun State (2011), Advocacy As A Tool For Improved Road Safety Activities (2012), and VALUE OF AIRTIME by BBC  (2013, 2015).

He had earlier functioned as the longest serving Lagos Office Manager (1990- 2002) wherein he was responsible for generating 70% of the station’s revenue.

Upon his recall to the Headquarters in 2002, he re-engineered marketing activities by attracting sponsors / presenters from across the South West like Yemkem International, Oko Oloyun Worldwide, Opeyemi Fajemilehin, Wale D Good, Baba Amoye, thus improving the station revenue astronomically.

He also initiated installment payment and barter arrangement for the acquisition of vehicles for the Corporation in 2004.  Till date, the system has sustained and saved the Corporation hugely.  He coordinated OSBC Survey with Obafemi Awolowo University, distance Learning – September in 2008.

He has some publications to his credit such as History of Economic Thoughts (1984); Critique of Multilateral Control of Advertising in Nigeria (1994); and the Ideal Communicator, A Paper Presented at Media Network Launch, Ikire (2006).  He is a full member of Advertising Practitioner Council of Nigeria (APCON) and Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR); and he has had bagged awards as Pioneer Recipient, OSBC Staff Productivity (1993) and outstanding Performance as Acting Director of Marketing (2005), Diabetes Association of Nigeria, Oodua People’s Congress, Ifedayo Students’ Association, Rotary International and Lion’s Club to mention a few.

He speaks impeccable English, Yoruba and Hausa. He is also well travelled and has been to the United States of America, Republic of South Africa, Qatar, United Kingdom and Kenya, to mention but a few.  His hobbies include Soccer, Table Tennis, Packaging and Travelling.

Some of the special assignments performed within broadcasting are:  hosting of media executives in Sheraton, Lagos, Production of end of the year corporate gift items, coining of Orisun FM for OSBC Radio II, Ile-Ife; Chairman of Newstalk       and major contributor to Newstalk; Chairman, OSBC Model School Building Committee; Coordinating Pioneer Proprietor, OSBC Model School; Organizer, Miss Osun Beauty Pageant – 2011; and Chairman, 2012 OSBC Father Xmas and New Year Committee.

Chairman, OSBC Business Committee, Editor, Obokun Community Newspaper, Director, Global Ventures Ltd, Creator, Producer and Presenter of Yotomi Opin Ose on TV, Acada World and The Nation Today among others.

On the social front, Wale Idowu is the Spokesperson of Iwude Ijesa Festival  Committee and Ijesa Forum.  Also, a past Vice President Ijesa Sport  Club, Obokun Klass Club and Apex Society.

In the Apostolate, he is the Osogbo Diocesan Chairman of Catholic Media Practitioners.

Adewale  Michael Idowu is happily married to his ever supportive wife, Christianah Olamide, and the marriage is blessed with children.
