The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to raise the percentage of allocation to the Health Sector from 5 percent to 15 percent.
According to The House, the amount being budgeted for Health Care in the Country is grossly inadequate to solve the health challenges facing the Nation presently .
The lower chamber of the National Assembly made the call at the Lawmakers unanimous motion moved by Hon. Ntufam Mbora, titled; Deplorable State of Government-Owned Health Care Facilities in Nigeria.
Hon. Mbora recalled that the reasons adduced for the December 31, 1983, Military coup is that Nigeria’s Economy had been mismanaged, the Nation had become indebted and the Health Sector was in shambles, as Hospitals had been reduced to mere consulting Clinics without Drugs, water, electricity and other Health equipment to function optimally.
The house therefore pleaded with the Federal Government to increase the Annual Budgetary Allocations to the Health Sector from 5 percent to 15 percent as it had been pledged by Successive Governments to curb unnecessary Deaths caused by the failing Health System.
