Relief items: Court orders arrest of Kano LG chair

A Magistrates’ Court in Kano State presided over by Musa Fagge on Wednesday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kabiru Panshekara, for failure to appear before the court despite receiving summons.

It was reported that the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission had filed a suit before the court on alleged breach of trust by Panshekara regarding the distribution of the state government’s COVID-19 relief items in his area.

The anti-graft agency said it frowned on the act of diverting relief materials meant for vulnerable people amid the lockdown to personal coffers.

The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, May 27, 2020, when the chairman would be brought to court.
