Senate: Aduda replaces Abaribe as Minority Leader

The Senate on Tuesday named the lawmaker representing the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Philip Aduda, as the new Minority Leader of the Senate to replace Senator Eyinaya Abaribe.

Senator Chukwuka Utazi was also named as the Senate Minority Whip to take over Aduda’s former position.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, announced the appointments while reading two separate letters signed by the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party Samuel Anyanwu.

It would be recalled that the seat of the Minority Leader became vacant following the defection of Senator Abaribe (Abia South) from the PDP.

The former Senate Minority Leader and governorship aspirant in Abia State, Enyinnaya Abaribe, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party and resigned as the Minority Leader in the upper chamber of the National Assembly in May this year citing shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party.
