Sensitive Materials Distributed As Osun LG Election Holds Saturday

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has concluded all plans for the peaceful conduct of local government election slated for Saturday October 15, 2022 across the State.

A visit by OSBC Correspondent to the Commission’s headquarters in Osogbo on Friday revealed that sensitive materials have been distributed to various local governments for the process to be credible and hitch free.

Some officers of the Commission were seen sorting out the elections materials on local government basis even as means of transportation of those materials to their respective wards and local government were properly arranged.

It would be recalled that OSIEC had affirmed readiness of the commission to hold a credible, free and fair local government poll which according to him was in accordance with the State Assembly Law.

Chairman of the Commission, Otunba Olusegun Oladuntan, while addressing a press conference in Osogbo recently said all inhibiting factors and circumstances against the conduct of the elections have been ameliorated.

Oladuntan said “while all previous laws on local government elections in the state had been repealed and the Osun State Electoral Law 2022 has been enacted and signed by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the coast is now clear for the exercise.

“Therefore, the Commission is now operating with the new law that adopts presidential system of government as against the repealed parliamentary system as passed by the State House of Assembly.

“I therefore assure you that the Commission will act without fear or favour with a promise to conduct a free, fair and credible election.”
