Southern governors meet in Lagos after Asaba accord

Eight weeks after their meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on May 11, 2021, 17 Southern governors again met in Alausa, Ikeja, the Lagos State capital, to deliberate on issues including open grazing ban, restructuring, fiscal federalism and the call for state police, amongst other national matters.

“We welcome all our brother Governors and we want to start our deliberations almost immediately. At the end of our meeting, our communique will be made known to you,” Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, welcomed his colleagues to the meeting.

Some of the early birds at the meeting include host governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Adegboyega Oyetola (Osun), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Godwin Obaseki (Edo) represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Others are Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Diri Duoye (Bayelsa), Willie Obiano (Anambra), Ben Ayade (Cross Rivers), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), David Umahi (Ebonyi), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Oluwaseyi Makinde (Oyo).

They are expected to issue a communiqué at the end of the meeting.
