Taraba Assembly Elects New Speaker

The Taraba State House of Assembly on Wednesday elected Kizito Bonzena as a new Speaker during the emergency sitting of the House.

The election of Bonzena from Zing State Constituency followed the resignation of the former Speaker, Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini.

The letter of resignation of the former Speaker was read by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Hamman Adama of Daka State Constituency.

Adama, who presided over the emergency sitting, called for the nomination of the new Speaker, and members unanimously nominated and elected Bonzena as the new Speaker.
Kunini’s last official function was on Monday, when he presented the 2023 budget to the governor, Darius Ishaku, for his assent.

The political realignment that saw the former speaker resign his position is not yet clear.
