Two arraigned for murder of Ekiti minors running errands

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men, Ayeni Abolarin, 42; and Ajayi Oluwaseun, 34, before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged killing of two minors.

The defendants are standing trial on two counts of conspiracy to murder and murder.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, told the court on Monday that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on October 11, 2020, in Ado Ekiti.

He said, “The defendants, on the said date, unlawfully murdered two minors, a five-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy, who were sent to buy provisions on the street by their grandfather, but their dead bodies were later found in an abandoned car.

“The offences are punishable under sections 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”

The prosecutor said he had forwarded their case files to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Counsel for the defendants, Mr Opeyemi Ogunremi, sought a date of adjournment pending advice from the DPP.

Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid Lawal ordered that the defendants be remanded in a correctional centre pending the legal advice from the DPP’s office.

He adjourned the case till December 23, 2020, for further hearing.
