Unemployment: Oyetola urges youths to embrace agriculture

Agriculture acquisition of entrepreneurial skills has been described as the way out of the current unemployment challenges that many youths are facing.

Governor  state of Osun, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola maintained this stance in Osogbo.

The governor stated that the days of white collar jobs are long gone, calling on youths to look inwards and make a living for themselves through agriculture and entrepreneurial skills; adding that it is time to make paradigm shift and see functional education as a personal empowerment and a key that opens doors to opportunity in becoming a job creator rather than a job seekers.

He maintained that, if agriculture is well pursued in the improved and mechanized scale, agriculture alone would create job for over 50percent of jobless youths, while entrepreneurial and vocational training would take care of another significant percentage of the youths in the unemployment market.

Governor Oyetola noted that his administration is providing enabling environment and opportunities in the area of loan facilities for farmers and small scale business owners, while urging youths who do not have opportunity to attend tertiary institutions to take advantage of available vocational and entrepreneurial opportunities to learn trades and be self reliant.

He submitted that there is no doubt that government’s war against unemployment would be won when youths who are the targets and beneficiaries of the war against unemployment are organising themselves into groups to find solution to the challenge.
