Broadcast journalists have been charged to make responsibility the beacon of their profession.
The chief executive officer of the Channels Media Group, Mr John Momoh who gave the charge at the induction of the first set of members of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters in Lagos remarked that responsibility connotes objectivity, fairness, balance with unbiased reportage.
The Broadcast manager stressed the beacon of Broadcast journalism which is Responsibility should be upheld by Broadcast managers, editors, reporters and producers.
He regretted, that the media landscape is fraught with and taken over by social media journalists, mostly untrained, thus churning out half truths and unverified information, often difficult to track and with devastating effects on society.
Charging Professional Broadcast journalists to look into content creation to dislodge social media journalists from the landscape, Mr John Momoh prodded media professionals to promote peace in all aspects of their job.
In their remarks, former Chairman, OSBC board of directors, Dr Yemi Farounbi, media icons, Engineers Vincent Maduka and Shyngles Wigwe took a swipe at the manner licenses are given to would be proprietors who establish stations with dearth of professionals and content.
They stressed the need for the Broadcast industry to emphasise dress code and ,invest in training of staff.
It could be recalled that the first stream of induction of pioneers into the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters took place in Abuja a couple of days ago. The second stream of the first set took place in Lagos with inductees, drawn from all over the country.
Part of the inductees in Lagos were the Director of News, OSBC Radio Abimbola Babatunde, Director, News, OSBC TV, Akinola Owolabi, Director of Sports, OSBC, Muideen Adeleke and Director of Engineering, Toyin Owojaye.
Others were Bukola Aderibigbe, Coordinating Director, Ministry of Information, Moshood Sulaiman, Director of Press, Ministry of Information and Oluwatoyin Yusuf, Deputy Director, Current Affairs, OSBC TV.
