Residents and business owners at Ijemo, Oba Ademola area of Abeokuta in Ogun State, have expressed concern over the incessant invasion of the community by burglars.
Hoodlums had broken into some shops in the area, where they reportedly stole valuable items, on Friday night.
Some of the victims and residents who spoke with our correspondent claimed the burglars destroyed padlocks, and bent irons at some shop entrances to gain access to the shops
The residents lamented that the community is always under attack from yet-to-be-identified burglars.
A resident, Victoria Omoraka, who claimed the burglars once broke into her shop, appealed to security operatives to come to their aid.
Omoraka lamented that the police have not been able to find a solution despite reporting burglary cases on different occasions.
She said, “They burgled my shop in August, while they did the same to another person in September. They stole grinding machines and four motorcycles. They were unable to burgle my shop the second time
“We reported at Ijemo police station. The police came to the scene of the robbery, and they said the only thing we can do is to hire a security guard.”
A community leader, Alex Oguntade, also said some shops in the area have been robbed more than once.
Oguntade said, “Their targets, for now, are shops, but if nothing is done, they will start invading our homes.
“We want the government and the police to come to our aid, this is becoming too much. We can’t sleep with our two eyes close. Hardly is there a week that you will not hear the report of a shop being burgled.”
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was not aware of the incident.
