A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has remanded a man, Bitrus Wurawa, for allegedly stabbing one Ezekiel Yohana to death with a jackknife at Kara Market, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
The defendant was arraigned on April 10, before Magistrate P. E Nwaka on one count of murder.
Yahana, 23, was said to have borrowed N14,000 from Wurawa in January and promised to repay in a few weeks.
However, Yahana was unable to do so despite several pleas from the defendant.
In the process of an argument, Yahana was said to have brought out a jackknife which the defendant immediately snatched from him and used to stab his back and hand.The charge read, “That you, Bitrus Wurawa, on March 18, 2023, around 6.23 pm at Kara Market, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully killed one Ezekiel Yohana, 23, by stabbing him with a jackknife.”
The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, Wurawa committed the offence on March 8.
Nurudeen added that the crime is punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
He implored the court to remand Wurawa to the correctional centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The defendant has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the DPP.
Magistrate Nwaka adjourned the case till 5 May, 2023.
