A 24-year-old businessman, Nasiru Dalhatu, has allegedly impregnated his neighbour’s 14-year-old daughter and procured an abortion for her.
The incident happened at Kayauki village, Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victim’s father, Usman Danlami, reported the incident to the police, who arrested Dalhatu and charged him with rape and causing miscarriage.
The police said the charges were contrary to sections 254 and 200 of the Katsina state Penal Code Law of 2021 as amended.
According to the police, Dalhatu in April had an “unlawful sexual intercourse” with the victim, which resulted in pregnancy.
He was alleged to have later given the victim some tablets, which caused miscarriage of the pregnancy.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, told the Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court where Dalhatu was arraigned on Thursday, that the victim’s father reported the incident to the police on July 13, 2021, adding that investigation was in progress on the case.
Bello prayed with the court to adjourn the case till another date when the case would come up for mention.
The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, granted the prayer and adjourned the case till September 23, 2021 for mention.
She directed that Dalhatu be remanded in a correctional service centre till then.
