INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: NAWOJ LAUDS WOMEN PARTAKING IN ELECTORAL PROCESS

Vice president of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, south east Zone, in Enugu,  Comrade Chibota Edozie has commended Nigerian women, particularly in the zone for their great awareness and participation in elections, urging them to vote credible candidates that mean well to people.

In a press release issued to pressmen in Enugu and signed by NAWOJ, VP, Comrade Edozie to commemorate this year’s International Women’s day, She noted that more women participated in the 2019 general elections than they used to, stressing that voter education and mobilization by NAWOJ and other NGOs helped a lot in ensuring that they came out in large number.

On the theme of this year’s International Women’s day “Balance for Better” she said that NAWOJ was poised to reduce global gap between men and women in various issues like politics, career opportunity, governance and building of good homes. She also commended the South East Governors wives for their concern on improving the well- being of women in their zones particularly the down- trodden women in the society.

According to her, the wives of Anambra and Ebonyi State Governors, tried extremely with their pet projects by providing shelters for more than 1000 widows while Enugu state Governor’s wife provided 100 per cent medical care delivery for women and children.

Probe South West votes, Buhari support group tells President Comrade Edozie urged women to take the issue of their health seriously, stressing that breast cancer was on increase now and appealed to them to avail themselves opportunity offered by some organizations that run free cancer tests to ascertain their status.

She also promised that NAWOJ in the zone will soon organize seminar/workshop for women; this will help to galvanize women into the mainstream of politics in the South east and called on well-meaning individuals, organizations to support the proposed seminar.

The Vice-president used the occasion to express gratitude to the people for voting some women into elective positions and commended the elected women for their efforts in participating in the general election, calling on them to remember to use their positions to uplift the lives of women in the zone generally.
