Suspected Smugglers were Arrested in Akwa ibom-NAVY

The Nigerian Navy, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom have  arrested four suspected smugglers in connection with the smuggling of 220 Bags of 50 kg rice.

The Commanding Officer, FOB, Capt. Peter Yilme disclosed this in Ibaka during the hand-over of the suspects and items to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

He further emphasized that Navy were committed to making perpetrators of illegal trade face the consequences of their action under the law.

Yilme who was represented by the Base Operations Officer, Lt. Commander Kabiru Yusuf, noted that the suspect were caught with wooden boat used to smuggle the rice, these items were seized during a routine patrol around the effiat waterways.

However, the Deputy Superintendent of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Alabi Adedokun commended the Navy members for their cooperation and actions towards the growth and development of this Nations.

 One of the suspects known as Godwin Nseyoh, 29 years old from Mbo Local Government Area, confessed that he did not know rice smuggling to be a wrong act.
