The Nigerian military High Command on Wednesday, said that it has provided additional treatment centres in Warri, Delta state, with two others at Port Harcourt, in Rivers and Owerrinta, in Abia states, to take care of the COVID-19 treatment needs of people.
Major General John Enenche, Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations, in the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), made this disclosure while briefing journalists in Abuja, on the continuous efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, to tackle the pandemic.
The provision brings to a total of 21 treatment centres provided so far, by the Nigerian military, which had last week announced the establishment of 18 treatment centres elsewhere in the country,
“Following the series of our briefing on the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s support on COVID-19, I wish to state that we have provided 3 additional facilities for isolation and treatment of Patients.
“These are; the Nigerian Navy Hospital Warri, the Nigerian Navy Medical Centre Borokiri Port Harcourt and Nigeria Navy Logistics School Medical Centre, Owerrinta, bringing the total to 21 Centres. In addition, 80 Armed Forces Medical personnel have been trained and deployed to the various centres to provide medical support”, General Enenche stated.
His disclosed that the centres were ready, and awaiting the confirmation and commissioning by the Presidential Task force on COVID-19, and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
He assured that the right equipment needed at the facilities to manage the corona virus cases were on ground, to ensure quality treatments for patients.
The Coordinator appealed to citizens to see reason and support government’s efforts geared towards preventing the spread of the virus.
“The High Command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to thank the general public for their understanding and compliance with the Presidential Directive in respect of the lockdown.
“It should be understood that the directive is in the best interest of the Nigerian populace, in order to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic”, he said.
General Enenche, while fielding questions from journalists however acknowledged that some citizens were somewhat disobedient to the directives and have made up their minds not to comply.
Commending the efforts of the sister security agencies on the front line, the General said that there were no needs for the military to step in, to enforce full compliance.
