A COVID-19 patient in Delta state has died.

Although details of the victim are yet to be released, infographics released by the Ministry of Information on Wednesday, showed an update on the cases of the virus in the state.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had recorded a seventh case of coronavirus in the state on Tuesday.

The Nation, however, gathered that the deceased is the new case reported by the NCDC.

It was gathered that the patient died on Saturday April 25.

He was said to have presented himself at the isolation centre in Central Hospital, Warri but was reportedly asked to go home after NCDC officials collected his sample.

It was further learnt that the State Taskforce on COVID-19 on receiving the result contacted the family of the deceased but were told the patient had died.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had announced the discharge of two out of the five active coronavirus patients in the state who tested negative.

This brings the current number of active cases in the state to three.

Efforts to get comments from the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye, were unsuccessful.

He did not take calls put across to his phone line.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of the Central Hospital, Warri, Dr. Paul Okubor, said he was in a meeting when contacted but promised to call back.

He was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
