The meeting scheduled for Wednesday between the Federal Government and the leadership of the Joint Health Sector Unions ended with government promising to address grey areas in the ongoing payment of the COVID-19 hazard allowances.

The closed-door meeting had in attendance the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire; Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunimbe Mamora; top officials of the Federal Ministry of Health and the executive of JOHESU led by its Chairman, Biobelemoye Josiah.

Although details of the meeting were sketchy, a source told The PUNCH on Thursday that the meeting resolved that JOHESU should draw the attention of the Ministry of Health in writing to the anomaly identified in the implementation of Memorandum of Understanding reached.

The union was also told to attach the lists of workers that were not properly captured in the process.

Recall that JOHESU had on Tuesday expressed displeasure over some lingering issues, including withheld salaries, indicating a fresh crisis in the health sector.

According to the body, rather than pay the 50 per cent of health workers basic salaries as special hazard allowance across board as earlier agreed, the Ministry of Health insisted that some categories of health workers should be paid 10 per cent.
